UPSC's New Facial Recognition System

UPSC Announcement: All candidates participating in recruitment exams organized by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will now undergo facial recognition checks at examination centers. This update was shared by officials on Saturday.

According to the officials, this initiative aims to enhance the integrity of the examination process.

A statement on the UPSC website confirms, "Facial recognition will be implemented for all candidates at the examination venue."

The UPSC is responsible for conducting various recruitment exams for government positions, including the Civil Services Examination, which selects officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS).

AI-Driven Facial Authentication for Efficient Verification

The UPSC has successfully piloted an AI-based facial authentication system to expedite and secure candidate verification during the NDA (National Defence Academy) and NA (Naval Academy) II Examination, 2025, as well as the CDS (Combined Defence Services) II Examination, 2025, which took place on September 14, 2025.

This pilot was conducted at select centers in Gurugram, where candidates' facial images were digitally compared with the photos submitted during registration.

UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar noted that this new system has reduced verification time to an average of 8 to 10 seconds per candidate, significantly accelerating the entry process while enhancing security.
