The University of Toronto has announced a groundbreaking scholarship initiative worth $100 million to attract talented PhD students globally. Named the 'President’s Impact Scholarship,' this program offers significant financial support, enabling students to focus on impactful research. With an annual funding of $80,000 per student, the initiative aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation. Starting in September 2027, the program will support 12 to 13 new students each year, ultimately benefiting 50 students. Each selected PhD candidate will receive an annual financial package of $80,000 (approximately ₹77 lakh). Over four years, this totals $320,000 (around ₹3.08 crore), allowing students to concentrate fully on their research endeavors during their doctoral studies. The university asserts that this financial aid is competitive with scholarships provided by top research institutions in the U.S. and U.K.
