Protest Against Exam Dates

On Monday, numerous undergraduate students from St. Agnes College in Mangaluru organized a demonstration outside their college, opting to boycott their examinations. The students have raised concerns that the exam dates coincide with the Dussehra festival.

Students' Concerns

In Mangaluru, Karnataka, students have voiced their discontent regarding the decision to hold semester exams during the Dussehra holidays. A significant number of students from St. Agnes College protested outside the campus, arguing that the exam schedule clashes with the festival, hindering their ability to partake in the celebrations. The college has planned the semester exams from October 12 to October 28, which the students find unacceptable. They have sought intervention from the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, but no changes to the exam schedule have been announced yet.

Gathering at the College

On Monday, students assembled at the main entrance of the college to express their grievances. Their primary concern is the timing of the exams during the Dussehra holidays, which they believe prevents them from engaging in traditional festivities. They have voiced their dissatisfaction and are calling for administrative action.

Support from ABVP

The protesting students received backing from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). They presented their demands to the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, seeking a resolution. The students are urging a reassessment of the exam schedule that overlaps with Dussehra, as this situation forces them to choose between attending the festival and their examinations. As of now, there has been no official response from the administration regarding their requests.

Exams Proceed Despite Protests

While the protests unfolded outside the college, the examinations continued as scheduled on campus. Students who opted to take the exams entered the college premises, while those boycotting remained outside to protest. Although police attempted to negotiate with the demonstrators and disperse the crowd, the protest persisted. Students who chose not to attend the exams are now worried about potential academic consequences. It is important to note that these semester exams are set to continue until October 28, and students are still calling for the Deputy Commissioner's intervention.
