Final Vacancy Count Released for SSC CGL Examination 2025
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has officially announced the final number of vacancies for the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination 2025. This recruitment initiative aims to fill numerous positions across various ministries, departments, and organizations within the Central Government. After making slight adjustments to earlier figures, the confirmed total now stands at 15,125 vacancies. Specific quotas have been designated for candidates from Unreserved, OBC, SC, ST, and EWS categories. Candidates are required to indicate their preferred posts prior to the final results being published.
Increase in Vacancies
Initially, a notification dated June 9, 2025, called for applications for 14,582 positions. Following requests from different ministries and departments for additional vacancies, the total was raised by 543. These recruitments will cover Group 'B' and Group 'C' roles within the Central Government's various entities, including constitutional and statutory bodies.

As per the Commission's announcement, the distribution of the 15,125 posts is as follows:

The largest allocation is for the Superintendent position under the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) with 6,626 posts, followed by 412 posts for Income Tax Inspectors and 1,294 posts for Tax Assistants.
Recruitment in Additional Departments
Recruitment will also occur within the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), which is part of the Ministry of Finance. This includes 1,306 posts for Inspector (Central Excise), 137 for Inspector (Examiner), and 353 for Inspector (Preventive Officer). Additionally, there are 183 posts for Executive Assistants and 771 for Tax Assistants.
Post Preferences Submission Deadline

The SSC has instructed all candidates who took the Tier-2 examination to submit their post and department preferences before the final results are announced. The Tier-1 results were released on December 18, while the Tier-2 examination took place from January 18 to January 20.
Upcoming Recruitment Processes
SSC to Soon Initiate Process for New Recruitments
The SSC is preparing to launch the application process for three new recruitment examinations this month: the SSC CGL Examination 2026, the Junior Engineer Examination 2026, and the Selection Post Phase-14 Examination. Applications will be accepted until the end of April, with preliminary computer-based tests tentatively scheduled for May. Additionally, notifications for the SSC CHSL Examination 2026, Stenographer Grade C and D Examination 2026, and the Combined Hindi Translator Examination 2026 will be released next month, with examinations likely occurring between July and September.
