UPSC CSE Mains 2026 Exam Centre Guidelines



UPSC CSE Mains 2026 Exam Schedule: The UPSC CSE Mains examination is set to commence on August 21, 2026. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released crucial guidelines for candidates participating in this examination. Even a small mistake at the exam centre could jeopardize months of preparation, as the Commission enforces its rules stringently.


Verification Process: This year, the verification process will be particularly thorough. Biometric and facial recognition systems will be implemented at the exam centres to deter any form of malpractice. Candidates must familiarize themselves with all the guidelines, including the necessary documents to bring along with the UPSC Mains admit card and the items that are prohibited.


Exam Dates and Timings:
The UPSC CSE Mains 2026 will take place on August 21, 22, 23, 29, and 30, 2026, in two shifts each day. The first shift is scheduled from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and the second from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. It is advisable for candidates to arrive at the exam centre at least 30 minutes prior to the start of each session.


Mandatory Face Authentication:
Face authentication will be compulsory for all candidates at the UPSC exam centre. Candidates are required to bring two recent passport-sized photographs for each exam session. If there is a discrepancy in the face authentication or issues with the photograph, candidates must complete an undertaking form and attach their photograph at the centre.


Permitted Items at the Exam Centre:
Candidates should carry the following items to the UPSC exam hall:



  • e-Admit Card: A clear printout of the admit card.

  • Original Photo ID: The same identity proof (Aadhaar, PAN card, Voter ID, or Passport) as mentioned on the admit card.

  • Passport-sized Photographs: Two photographs for each session.

  • Black Ballpoint Pen: Only black ballpoint pens are allowed for filling out the answer booklet and attendance sheet.

  • Transparent Water Bottle: Only transparent bottles for drinking water are permitted.


Prohibited Items:
For security reasons, the following items are strictly banned at the UPSC exam centres:



  • Electronic Devices: Mobile phones (even if turned off), smartwatches, Bluetooth devices, pagers, or pen drives.

  • Stationery: Notes, books, loose papers, or any type of calculators.

  • Valuables: Expensive jewelry, large bags, or other valuable items.


Important Note: UPSC exam centres will not provide facilities for storing candidates' bags or valuables. Therefore, it is advisable to bring only essential and permitted items to the examination.
