NTA Concludes Inquiry into OMR Sheet Issues



The National Testing Agency (NTA) has wrapped up its investigation concerning the OMR sheet discrepancies that arose after the NEET-UG results were announced. This inquiry focused on claims made by candidates regarding inconsistencies in their OMR sheets and notable differences in their scores.


The controversy surrounding the NEET OMR sheets began when a student from Pune, Maharashtra, reported receiving two distinct OMR sheets. He downloaded one from the NTA website on July 13 and received another via email on July 15. Despite both sheets displaying his name, the answers recorded were not the same. The student's father noted that comparing the first OMR sheet with the official answer key yielded a score of 707, while the official result showed only 217 marks. Another student from Beed district claimed he was awarded 95 marks on the official scorecard, despite calculating a score of 522 based on the final answer key.


The NTA's investigation revealed that the OMR sheet submitted by the Pune student was entirely fabricated using AI technology. In contrast, the Beed student's document was found to be altered. The agency confirmed that these documents did not correspond with the original OMR sheets.


In light of these findings, the NTA has issued a warning regarding legal repercussions for individuals who submit fake or AI-generated documents. The agency emphasized the importance of submitting only original OMR sheets for verification. Additionally, the Congress party has raised concerns about irregularities in a candidate's marksheet, alleging that one candidate's OMR sheet was swapped with another's, prompting questions directed at the Central Government and the Ministry of Education.


The OMR sheet controversy extended beyond Maharashtra, with candidates from states like Karnataka also reporting discrepancies between their final results and scores calculated from the final answer key. Many students expressed that the reduction in their marks significantly impacted their All India Rank and have called for greater transparency in the evaluation process.
