NMMSS Scholarship 2026-27: Financial Aid for Meritorious Students
NMMSS Scholarship Overview
The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) is designed to offer financial support to talented students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, enabling them to pursue their education.
Registration Details for NMMSS 2026-27
The Department of School Education and Literacy, part of the Ministry of Education, has initiated the registration process for the NMMSS for the academic year 2026-27. Students in Class 9 can apply for the scholarship for the first time, while those in Classes 10 to 12 can renew their existing scholarships. The application deadline is set for August 31, 2026, and students must utilize the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) for their applications.
Purpose of the NMMSS Scheme
The primary goal of the NMMSS is to provide financial assistance to deserving students from economically weaker sections, encouraging them to continue their education beyond Class 8. This initiative by the Central Government aims to lower the dropout rates in schools, ensuring that financial difficulties do not hinder students' academic journeys.
Eligibility Criteria for NMMSS
Students enrolled in Class 9 at government, government-aided, and local body schools are eligible to apply for the NMMSS. Additionally, students in Classes 10, 11, and 12 can renew their scholarships, provided they meet the necessary criteria. Students may also apply for multiple scholarship schemes, including merit-based options, as long as they fulfill the eligibility requirements.
Application Deadline
The final date for both new applications and renewals for the NMMSS 2026-27 is August 31, 2026. Students must ensure their applications are submitted within this period via the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
