NEET UG 2026: Diabetic Students Guidelines and Important Information
NEET UG 2026 Guidelines for Diabetic Candidates
NEET UG 2026 Examination Schedule: The NEET UG 2026 exam is set for May 3, 2026. Recently, some technical issues regarding the admit cards have emerged. A parent, R. Prasanna, raised concerns on social media about their daughter, a Type-1 diabetic who uses an insulin pump. Despite indicating this in the application, it was not noted on her admit card.
The examination center for their daughter is located at KV School in Kalpakkam. The parent sought guidance from the National Testing Agency (NTA) on how to proceed. The NTA promptly addressed this issue, confirming that the examination center has been notified. The student will be allowed to take the exam while wearing her insulin pump, which is vital information for all candidates managing medical conditions like Type 1 diabetes.
Steps to Take If Your Admit Card Lacks Diabetes Information:
Many candidates disclose their medical conditions, such as Type 1 diabetes, when filling out the NEET UG application. However, due to space constraints on the admit card, this information may not appear. If this is the case for you, there is no need to worry. The NTA has clarified that they securely maintain your data. If you provided accurate details in your application, a list of candidates with special medical needs is sent to the examination centers beforehand.
Guidelines for Insulin Pumps and Medical Devices:
Students with Type-1 diabetes often need an 'external insulin pump.' Given the strict dress code and security measures at NEET, questions about such devices are common. According to NTA guidelines, candidates who disclosed their medical conditions during application can bring an insulin pump, glucometer, or glucose tablets into the exam hall. Regarding the Kalpakkam center, the NTA has stated:
Special provisions exist for diabetic candidates taking the NEET UG 2026 exam, allowing them to carry the following items:
- Sugar tablets or fruits (like bananas, apples, or oranges).
- Water in a transparent bottle.
- Essential medications (with a doctor's prescription).
- Insulin pumps or pens (with prior notification).
However, packaged food items like chocolates, candies, or sandwiches are not allowed.
**Precautions to Follow at the Exam Center:**
Although the NTA has informed the center authorities, candidates should take certain precautions for their safety and convenience. Arrive at the NEET UG examination center at least 30 minutes before the reporting time. Carry a medical certificate from a doctor along with the prescription. Politely inform the security personnel and the Center Superintendent about your medical condition. If this is not mentioned on your admit card, having a copy of your application form may be beneficial.
The NTA's active engagement on social media is helping to address concerns raised by candidates promptly, proving to be a valuable resource.
