Changes in Exam Pattern

The MPSC has implemented significant changes to the Main Examination format this year. Candidates will no longer be required to take papers on two optional subjects. Starting in 2027, those appearing for the Maharashtra Civil Services (Gazetted Group A and Group B) Main Examination will not need to attempt optional subject papers. This move aligns Maharashtra with several other states, including Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, which have already eliminated optional subjects from their state service main examinations.

The Combined Preliminary Examination is set for September 27, 2026, and for the first time, it will be conducted online using the Computer-Based Test (CBT) format. Candidates who pass this initial stage will advance to the subsequent phases of the recruitment process as outlined by the Commission.
