JEE Main 2026: NTA Provides Correction Opportunity for Candidates
JEE Main 2026 Updates
JEE Main 2026: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced a crucial update for the thousands of students preparing for the first session of JEE Main 2026. Candidates whose application forms contained errors regarding their photographs or identity verification will now have a chance to rectify these issues. An official notification released on Friday indicates that corrections can be made until January 15, 2026, particularly in cases where discrepancies exist between the Aadhaar card and the live photograph submitted.
Reason for the Decision
Decision taken due to discrepancies between Aadhaar and live photos
As per the NTA, the online application window for JEE Main 2026 Session-1 was open from October 31 to November 27, 2025. During the verification phase, it was discovered that some applicants had used identity proofs other than their Aadhaar cards. Consequently, the live photographs submitted did not align with the Aadhaar images stored in the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) database. This additional chance for identity verification has been introduced to address these issues.
Steps for Candidates
What candidates need to do
The NTA has specified that students who received notifications via email must upload a signed and verified certificate along with a recent photograph. Initially, this verification was only acceptable if conducted by the principal or headmaster of the educational institution. However, in response to student feedback, the regulations have been relaxed. Candidates can now have their certificates verified by a Class-I Gazetted Officer, such as a Tehsildar, SDM, DM, or Revenue Officer. For NRI candidates, verification can also be done by a Class-I officer from the Indian Embassy.
Issues with Live Photo Requirement
The problem arose due to the mandatory live photo.
It is important to note that this year, the NTA required candidates to upload a live photograph during the JEE Main application process. Many students faced issues as their photos did not match the Aadhaar records. The NTA is proactively sending emails to all affected candidates to inform them about the correction process, ensuring that no eligible candidate's application is rejected due to technicalities.
