The newly launched B.Ed. Teachers Bridge Course 2026 is a six-month mandatory program for assistant teachers in primary schools, aimed at enhancing their professional skills. B.Ed. Teachers Bridge Course 2026: A mandatory six-month bridge course for assistant teachers in primary schools, who were recruited based on their B.Ed. qualifications, was officially launched in New Delhi on Wednesday. The program was inaugurated by Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi.


Course Implementation

This specialized course is being implemented following a directive from the Supreme Court. The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has been assigned the responsibility of conducting this course, which is recognized by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).


Applications Received

Number of Applicants: A total of 66,154 teachers from various states have applied for the bridge course. Uttar Pradesh leads with the highest number of applications, totaling 33,640. Below is the state-wise breakdown of applicants:

Eligibility for the Bridge Course

Mandatory for Specific Teachers: According to the Supreme Court's ruling, assistant teachers with B.Ed. qualifications who were appointed to primary schools between June 28, 2018, and August 11, 2023, must complete this bridge course. This requirement applies to all teachers appointed during this timeframe.


Course Duration and Completion

Timeframe for Completion: The bridge course spans six months, and teachers are required to finish it within one year from the official commencement date. A critical stipulation is that teachers must pass the course in a single attempt; failure to do so will invalidate their appointments.


Purpose of the Course

Dr. Alok Kumar Gupta, Deputy Director of the Capacity Building Cell at NIOS, explained that this course aims to enhance the professional skills of teachers, focusing on improving the essential competencies required for teaching at the primary level.
