CBSE Exams Postponed in Middle Eastern Countries Due to Ongoing Tensions
Exams Delayed Amidst Regional Conflict
In light of the escalating conflict in the Middle East, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to postpone the Class 10 and Class 12 examinations that were set for March 5 and 6, 2026, in several countries. Here are the details...
The ongoing tensions involving the US, Israel, and Iran show no signs of abating. While the US and Israel are conducting joint operations against Iran, the latter is retaliating by targeting US military bases in the Gulf region, leading to heightened tensions across the Middle East. This situation has significant implications for students enrolled in CBSE-affiliated schools in these areas, prompting the board to delay the exams.
The CBSE has emphasized that the safety of students and examination personnel is its highest priority. A revised exam schedule will be communicated at a later date. According to a statement from the board, this decision was made after a comprehensive assessment of the current circumstances in parts of the Middle East. The board reiterated its commitment to student safety and stated that no risks would be taken. Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj, the Controller of Examinations, has advised students and parents to maintain regular communication with their schools and to rely solely on official updates from the CBSE.
No New Dates Announced Yet
The examinations originally planned for March 5 and 6 have been postponed, with new dates to be announced in due course. The situation will be reassessed on March 5 regarding exams scheduled from March 7 onward. Should conditions improve, the exams may proceed as planned; however, if the situation remains critical, the board may implement additional necessary measures.
Countries Affected by Exam Postponement
The exams have been postponed in the following countries:
- Bahrain
- Iran
- Kuwait
- Oman
- Qatar
- Saudi Arabia
- United Arab Emirates (UAE)
Embassy Notifications
The decision has been communicated to Indian ambassadors in the affected countries and the Indian Consulate General in Dubai. This is to ensure that accurate and consistent information is disseminated, minimizing any inconvenience for students. Indian embassies and schools will collaborate to inform students and their families about the new exam dates.
Reason for the Decision
The current situation in many Middle Eastern nations is extremely volatile. Recently, the US and Israel targeted various sites in Iran, resulting in the death of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran has conducted retaliatory strikes. These events have fostered an atmosphere of fear and instability across the region, making access to schools and examination centers challenging in many areas. Given these circumstances, the CBSE has opted to postpone the exams as a precautionary measure.
