The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has announced the postponement of the State Services Main Examination for 2026, which was originally set to commence on October 3, 2026. Additionally, the MPSC has delayed the Maharashtra Civil Engineering Main Examination 2026 and the Maharashtra Group-B (Non-Gazetted) Main Examination 2026. The new dates for these exams will be revealed in due course.

This decision comes in response to requests from candidates, their families, and various student organizations. Ongoing protests have been reported, fueled by allegations of irregularities in the MPSC examinations, particularly concerning the leak of the Drug Inspector exam question paper. Following an investigation into this matter, the MPSC had previously canceled the recruitment process in August.

In a related development, the MPSC has opted to re-evaluate the answer sheets from the State Services Main Examination 2025. The Commission noted that many students and student organizations had raised concerns regarding the evaluation process. A high-level committee, led by senior official V. Radha, is currently reviewing the examination system of the MPSC. This committee has engaged with candidates and other stakeholders while also examining the practices of other examination commissions.

Recommendations from this committee are anticipated shortly. Based on their findings, the MPSC may implement measures aimed at enhancing the examination system and increasing transparency. Suggestions have been received regarding various aspects, including the examination process, distribution of question papers, and strategies to prevent irregularities during exams.
