CBSE Class 12 Re-evaluation Portal Overview
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) activated the application portal for Class 12 answer sheet re-evaluation on June 2. Despite this, numerous students have expressed difficulties in submitting their applications. In response, CBSE has reported attempts to breach its portal. According to their cybersecurity team, the latest incident involved a 'Denial of Service' attack, which led to the portal experiencing 1.5 million hits in just two minutes, along with over 100,000 unauthorized access attempts.
Details of the Cyber Attacks
CBSE revealed that on the launch date, many students tried to apply for re-evaluation, but malicious actors attempted to disrupt the service through cyber attacks. The board confirmed that the recent attack was a 'Denial of Service' incident, which resulted in an overwhelming number of hits and unauthorized access attempts.
Successful Applications and System Capacity
As per CBSE, the re-evaluation portal can handle over 8,000 users at once, facilitating simultaneous application submissions. By 3:00 PM on June 2, more than 16,000 students had successfully completed their applications for re-evaluation.
Enhancements and Vigilance
In light of student feedback, CBSE has made improvements to the platform, including extending session time limits to enhance user experience. The board has assured that its teams are on high alert to assist students effectively.
Previous Hacking Incidents
Historically, the CBSE portal has faced hacking incidents. In one case, an unidentified hacker compromised the portal meant for retrieving scanned copies of answer sheets, demanding ₹8,000 from students for a single subject's scanned copy, despite the official fee being only ₹100. CBSE later confirmed this hacking incident. Ethical hacker Nisarg has pointed out that the CBSE portal remains vulnerable to hacking, raising concerns about the potential exposure of students' personal information.
