NEET UG 2026: Major Updates from NTA

NEET UG 2026: The National Testing Agency (NTA) is actively preparing for the NEET UG 2026, scheduled for June 21, 2026 (Sunday). In response to past controversies, the NTA is implementing significant changes to enhance the transparency, security, and overall experience for candidates. This initiative aims to ensure a smooth and stress-free examination process.

Many candidates have expressed concerns about the time lost due to administrative tasks like signing and verification during the exam. Additionally, the lack of space for extensive calculations in Physics and Chemistry has been a recurring issue. To address these challenges, the NTA has revamped the test booklet entirely. Here’s what candidates can expect on the exam day.

Three Key Changes for NEET UG 2026

1. Extended Exam Duration
Candidates will now have 195 minutes (3 hours and 15 minutes) to complete the NEET exam. The NTA has confirmed that this time is dedicated solely to the exam itself, running from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM. This timeframe includes all necessary formalities such as invigilator signatures, biometric checks, and OMR sheet collection. Candidates with disabilities will receive an additional 65 minutes, allowing them to finish by 6:20 PM.

2. Increased Rough Work Pages
In a significant improvement, the number of pages allocated for rough work has been increased from two to four. This change will provide candidates with ample space to perform complex calculations without the need to squeeze their writing or cross out previous work.

3. New Design for Left-Handed Candidates
Recognizing that around 10% of candidates are left-handed, the NTA has redesigned the test booklet. Previously, left-handed candidates had to flip to the back for rough work. Now, two rough work pages will be located at the beginning of the booklet, making it more accessible for left-handed students.

Exam Day Schedule for June 21

The NTA has outlined a detailed timeline for the exam day, which candidates must adhere to:

  • 11:00 AM: Entry into exam centers begins, along with security checks.

  • 01:30 PM: Main gate closes; no entry will be allowed after this time.

  • 01:40 PM: Final entry of candidates into the exam hall.

  • 01:55 PM: Distribution of test booklets for verification.

  • 02:00 PM: Start of the NEET UG exam.

  • 05:15 PM: Conclusion of the exam (06:20 PM for differently-abled candidates).

It is crucial for candidates and their families to rely solely on information from the official NTA website (neet.nta.nic.in) and its verified channels to avoid misinformation from social media.
