IIT Bombay's Popularity Among Top Rankers



The results of JEE Advanced 2025 have highlighted IIT Bombay as the preferred choice for many top-performing candidates nationwide. A report from JIC indicates that a significant majority of the highest scorers opted for IIT Bombay as their primary institution for admission.


Out of the top 100 rankers this year, 73 candidates selected IIT Bombay, while 19 chose IIT Delhi and 6 opted for IIT Madras. This means that approximately 75% of the top achievers will be joining IIT Bombay.


The JIC report further reveals that no other IIT made it into the top 100 rankers, underscoring the growing appeal of IIT Bombay among the country's most talented students.


Increased Demand for IIT Bombay Seats

The report also highlights a notable trend: many IITs have admitted more students than their available seats. For instance, IIT Bombay has a capacity of 1,360 seats but admitted 1,364 students by the final round. This trend reflects the high demand for education at IIT Bombay.


Gender Ratio Insights

The JIC report sheds light on the gender distribution among the admitted students. This year, boys secured 14,524 seats, while girls filled 3,664 seats. Although the number of female candidates is still lower, their participation has been gradually increasing over the past few years.


Exam Participation and Success Rate

The JEE Advanced exam took place on May 18, 2025, across 258 centers in 155 cities. Millions of students participated, with a total of 54,378 candidates successfully passing the exam. Among these, the top rankers have garnered significant attention for their exemplary dedication and hard work.


Top Performers by Zone

The report also details the distribution of toppers from various zones. In the top 10, there were 4 candidates from the IIT Delhi zone, 3 from the IIT Bombay zone, 2 from the IIT Hyderabad zone, and 1 from the IIT Kanpur zone.
