QS Global MBA Rankings 2027: IIM Bangalore Leads Indian Institutes
IIM Bangalore Tops Indian Rankings
IIM Bangalore has achieved the highest position among Indian institutions in the QS Global MBA Rankings, securing a joint 64th place globally. Following closely are IIM Ahmedabad at 70th and IIM Calcutta at 95th.
Increase in Indian Representation
The QS Global MBA Rankings for 2027 have seen a notable rise in the number of Indian business schools. Despite this, no Indian institution has made it into the top 50 MBA programs worldwide. The rankings, released on September 16, evaluated over 400 full-time MBA programs from 65 countries based on various criteria, including employability and alumni outcomes.
Number of Indian Institutes in Rankings
This year, 19 Indian institutes have made it to the QS Global Full-Time MBA Rankings 2027, a significant increase from 7 in 2022 and 5 in 2020. Notably, five institutions are debuting in the rankings, with O.P. Jindal Global University achieving the highest position among newcomers, falling within the 171–180 range.
IIM Bangalore's Performance
For the fourth consecutive year, IIM Bangalore is recognized as India's top MBA institute. However, it has slipped in global rankings from 52nd to joint 64th. The institute excelled in employability, ranking 29th globally and second in Asia, while also securing 51st place in thought leadership.
US Institutions Dominate Rankings
In the QS MBA Rankings 2027, US institutions hold the top four positions. MIT Sloan School of Management has claimed the number one spot for the first time, followed by Harvard Business School, Stanford Graduate School of Business, and Penn (Wharton). The National University of Singapore Business School leads in Asia, ranking 23rd globally.
Ranking Criteria
The QS rankings are based on five main criteria, with employability weighted at 40%. Other factors include Value for Money (20%), Alumni Outcomes (15%), Thought Leadership (15%), and Diversity (10%). Indian business schools faced tough competition this year, particularly in areas like Return on Investment and Diversity, although ten institutions improved in Thought Leadership.
