JoSAA Counseling for Engineering Admissions

After the announcement of the JEE Advanced 2026 results, the next vital phase of the admission process for engineering colleges is about to commence. The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) will initiate counseling on June 2nd, allowing students to secure placements in esteemed IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other government-supported technical institutions. This process enables students to choose their desired colleges and courses.

The entire counseling procedure will be conducted online, with seat assignments based on candidates' ranks, categories, and preferences.

**Admissions for More Than 63,000 Seats**

Through the JoSAA Counseling 2026, admissions will be available for 23 IITs, 32 NITs, 26 IIITs, and 47 GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutes), collectively offering over 63,000 seats. This includes 18,160 seats in IITs, 24,525 in NITs, 9,940 in IIITs, and 10,228 in GFTIs.

**Eligibility for Counseling Participation**

Candidates who have achieved a rank in JEE Advanced 2026 are eligible to take part in the JoSAA counseling for IIT admissions. However, to finalize their admission, candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria related to their Class 12 results. For IITs, NITs, and IIITs, candidates need to have at least 75% marks in their Class 12 exams or be in the top 20th percentile of their respective school boards.

**Documents Required for Online Reporting**

Post seat allocation, candidates must complete an online reporting process, which requires uploading scanned copies of their Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, JEE Main/Advanced admit cards, category certificates, medical certificates, and a canceled cheque. Candidates from the EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) and OBC-NCL (Other Backward Classes – Non-Creamy Layer) categories must provide certificates issued on or after April 1, 2026.

**Criteria for Seat Allocation**

Seat allocation will be based on the candidate's category, rank, chosen academic program and institute preferences, as well as seat availability. The counseling process will encompass several key stages, including registration, choice filling, mock seat allotment, final seat allotment, seat acceptance, and document verification.
