According to a press release from IIT Roorkee, all candidates who have qualified are encouraged to take part in the counseling process managed by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) for 2026, irrespective of their Class 12 marks. The institute has urged students not to withdraw from the counseling process and to ensure timely registration. This announcement comes amid ongoing concerns regarding the CBSE Class 12 results and the OSM evaluation method.
Eligibility for Admission
While IIT Roorkee has recommended that all qualified students register for counseling, it has also specified an important condition. The institute clarified that final admission and seat allocation will only occur if candidates meet the Class 12 eligibility criteria, along with other requirements outlined in the JEE Advanced 2026 Information Brochure. Thus, even if a student participates in JoSAA counseling and receives a seat, their admission will not be confirmed if they do not meet the necessary Class 12 percentage or other eligibility standards.

This year, a significant number of students have raised objections regarding CBSE's new on-screen marking system, claiming they received lower marks than anticipated. Many have requested scanned copies of their answer sheets, and a re-evaluation process is currently in progress. Top Performers in JEE Advanced 2026
This year, Shubham Kumar from the IIT Delhi zone achieved the All India Rank 1 in JEE Advanced 2026, scoring 330 out of 360 marks, the highest score of the year. Among female candidates, Aarohi Deshpande, also from the IIT Delhi zone, topped with 280 out of 360 marks, securing the 77th rank in the Common Rank List (CRL).

Experts recommend that students who have qualified for JEE Advanced should not panic about their Class 12 marks. Those who have not yet registered for JoSAA counseling must ensure they do so within the designated timeframe.
