IGNOU PhD Admission Process Begins for July 2026 Session
IGNOU PhD Admission Announcement
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has officially opened the admission process for its PhD programs for the July 2026 session. Interested candidates can submit their applications online from June 10 to July 1, 2026. The application process is available on the university's official admission portal.
This session, IGNOU is offering PhD admissions in 36 different subjects, including Psychology, Anthropology, Political Science, Public Administration, Biochemistry, and Chemistry, among others. These programs will enable students to engage in research across various disciplines.
The admission procedure will adhere to the regulations set forth by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2022, allowing candidates to apply through multiple categories.
Categories for PhD Admission
Candidates can apply for PhD admission under four specific categories:
1. Candidates who have qualified for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) along with UGC-NET.
2. Assistant Professors and UGC-NET candidates eligible for PhD admission.
3. UGC-NET candidates eligible solely for PhD admission.
4. Candidates applying through the university-level entrance examination.
Interview Requirement
As part of the admission process, all candidates must attend an interview or viva-voce. However, those who have already qualified for the JRF or UGC-NET are exempt from the entrance test and will be directly invited for the interview. IGNOU offers both full-time and part-time PhD programs, catering to working professionals and those with busy schedules.
Coursework and Attendance
Selected candidates must complete the required coursework at IGNOU's headquarters in New Delhi. It is essential for research scholars to maintain a minimum attendance of 80% during their coursework. Failure to meet this attendance requirement may hinder their progress in the program.
Application Process and Fee
The application process is entirely online. Candidates need to register on the admission portal, fill out the application form, upload necessary documents, and pay the application fee.
The application fee for the PhD programs is set at ₹2,000, payable online. Candidates are encouraged to double-check all details before finalizing their applications.
