CBSE Class 12 Results: Delays Expected Due to Technical Issues

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is experiencing delays in announcing Class 12 results due to technical challenges with the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. Approximately 1.8 million students are anxious as the Board has reverted to manual evaluations for some answer sheets. Connectivity issues in remote areas have further complicated the process. While results were initially expected between May 10 and May 15, they are now likely to be declared between May 15 and May 20. CBSE has formed special teams to expedite the evaluation process, and students will be able to access their results via DigiLocker once they are officially announced.

Introduction to the Evaluation Process

This year, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has adopted the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system to enhance the evaluation process. This innovative approach involves scanning answer sheets and assessing them digitally.

Rising Anxiety Among Students

Approximately 1.8 million students who took the Class 12 exams are increasingly anxious about the announcement of their results. Initially, there were expectations that results might be released this week, but recent updates indicate that technical challenges are causing delays.

Technical Challenges with OSM

The OSM system was introduced to modernize the evaluation process, aiming to reduce errors and speed up result preparation. However, it has led to significant complications for the Board. Reports suggest that the evaluation process has slowed considerably due to various technical issues, including difficulties in uploading answer sheets and conducting evaluations.

Return to Manual Evaluation

In an unexpected turn of events, the Board has reverted to manual evaluation for some answer sheets. Reports indicate that around 800 answer sheets, primarily for subjects like English and Economics, could not be scanned successfully and were sent to a government school in North-East Delhi for manual assessment.

Connectivity Issues in Remote Areas

Poor internet connectivity in rural examination centers has significantly hampered the OSM's effectiveness. Many answer sheets could not be scanned due to low internet speeds, forcing the Board to resort to manual checking.

Expected Result Declaration Timeline

While CBSE has not confirmed a specific date for the results, it is anticipated that the announcement may be delayed until between May 15 and May 20. Officials state that most evaluations are complete, with only the final data processing remaining.

Formation of Special Teams

To address the delays, CBSE has formed five special teams tasked with expediting the evaluation of pending answer sheets. Each team consists of three experienced teachers working diligently to complete the manual evaluation.

Accessing Results via DigiLocker

An update regarding the results has been shared on the DigiLocker app, generating excitement among students. Once results are officially announced, students will be able to download their digital mark sheets from DigiLocker, and a link will also be available on the official CBSE website.
