UP Lekhpal Recruitment 2025: OBC Reservation Controversy and Upcoming Changes
UP Lekhpal Vacancy 2025 Overview
UP Lekhpal Vacancy 2025: The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Board (UPSSSB) has announced the recruitment for 7994 Lekhpal positions. Although the application process was set to commence on December 29, a controversy regarding the reservation details has emerged prior to its initiation. The allocation of posts for OBC candidates has particularly stirred political debates in the state, prompting expectations for modifications in the recruitment details. A new notification from UPSSSB may be forthcoming in the next week.
Understanding the Controversy
What exactly is the issue surrounding the reservations in the UP Lekhpal recruitment? Let's delve into the details.
OBC Posts Reduction Sparks Debate
The UPSSSB has called for applications for 7994 Lekhpal roles within the Revenue Department. According to the notification, the distribution of posts is as follows: 4165 for general category candidates, 792 for EWS, 1441 for OBC, 1446 for SC, and 150 for ST. This allocation has ignited controversy.
According to the Constitution, OBC candidates should receive a 27% reservation, which translates to 2158 posts. However, the UPSSSB has only allocated 1441 posts for OBCs, leading to accusations of rights violations from political leaders such as SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and Panchayati Raj Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar.
Government's Response to Reservation Issues
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has voiced his dissatisfaction regarding the reservation discrepancies in the UP Lekhpal recruitment 2025. In response, measures are being taken to amend the post details. The Revenue Council has been instructed to prepare a proposal for revising the post allocations and submit it to the UPSSSC promptly.
Timeline for Revised Proposal
Kanchan Verma, the Commissioner and Secretary of the Revenue Council, has communicated with the UPSSSB, indicating that the requisition for sanctioned Lekhpal posts and the roster-wise vacancies at the divisional level have been provided. She noted that new data regarding the category-wise distribution of vacant Lekhpal posts at the district level has been received.
The UP government has requested the Revenue Council to deliver the revised proposal for post details to the UPSSSB within a week. It is anticipated that the UPSSSB will release a new notification reflecting these changes before the application process begins.
