Southern Railway has announced its apprenticeship recruitment for 2026, aiming to fill a total of 4,471 apprentice positions. Out of these, 163 are reserved for 'Fresher' candidates, while 4,308 are for 'Ex-ITI' candidates. This recruitment drive provides apprenticeship opportunities in various trades, including Fitter, Electrician, Welder, COPA, Painter, and more. Educational Requirements
Candidates applying under the 'Fresher' category for trades like Fitter, Painter, and Welder must have achieved at least 50% marks in Class 10. For the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) role, candidates need a minimum of 50% in Class 12 with subjects including Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
Those in the 'Ex-ITI' category should hold an ITI certificate in the relevant trade from a recognized NCVT/SCVT institute, along with a minimum of 50% in Class 10. Note that engineering graduates and diploma holders are not eligible for this recruitment.
Age Criteria
The age limit for the 'Fresher' category is set between 15 and 22 years. For 'Ex-ITI' and 'MLT' candidates, the maximum age is 24 years. Age calculations will be based on September 27, 2026. Candidates from SC/ST, OBC, PwD (Persons with Disabilities), and Ex-Servicemen categories will receive age relaxation as per government regulations.
Application Procedure and Fees
Candidates can apply online through the official Southern Railway website. During the application process, they must provide personal, educational, and trade-related information, along with uploading a photograph, signature, and required certificates.
The application fee is ₹100 for General/UR candidates, while SC/ST/PwD candidates are exempt from this fee.
Selection Methodology
There will be no written test for this recruitment. Selection will be based on a merit list created from the marks obtained in Class 10, Class 12, and ITI. This will be followed by document verification, and final selection will depend on medical fitness.
