Eligibility Criteria for Classes 6 and 9

Before applying, it is crucial to verify the child's age and educational qualifications. As per NTA guidelines, the candidate's age will be calculated as of March 31, 2027. For Class 6 admission, students must be born between April 1, 2015, and March 31, 2017, and should either be currently enrolled in Class 5 or have completed it. For Class 9, candidates must be born between April 1, 2012, and March 31, 2014, and must have passed Class 8 from a recognized institution. Both boys and girls can apply for Classes 6 and 9, but for Class 9, girls' admission will depend on seat availability at the respective Sainik School. It is advisable to check specific details regarding seat availability and eligibility criteria for the chosen school before applying.

Seat Allocation Policy

Understanding the 40% and 60% Seat Allocation
For the new Sainik Schools under AISSEE 2027, two categories of seat allocation exist. 40% of the seats are designated for 'Category A', which is open to eligible candidates from across the country based on an all-India merit list. To qualify, candidates must take the AISSEE 2027 entrance exam and meet the academic and age requirements. This means that students from other schools can also apply for these seats.

60% of Seats Reserved for Current Students
Up to 60% of seats fall under 'Category B', reserved for students already enrolled in the same new Sainik School. For Class 6 admission, students must be in Class 5 at that school, and for Class 9, they must be in Class 8. These students must also qualify for the AISSEE 2027 exam. If any seats in Category B remain unfilled, they will be allocated to Category A candidates based on the merit list.

Exam Format and Languages

Exam Structure
The AISSEE 2027 will be conducted in a pen-and-paper format with multiple-choice questions (MCQs) that candidates will answer on an OMR sheet. Class 6 students will have 150 minutes to complete their exam, while Class 9 students will have 180 minutes. The Class 6 exam will be available in 13 languages, allowing students to take the test in their preferred language, whereas the Class 9 exam will be conducted only in English, necessitating preparation in that medium.

Application Fee Details

Fee Structure
The NTA has established the application fee for AISSEE 2027 based on candidate categories. General category candidates must pay ₹850, while children of defense personnel and ex-servicemen also pay ₹850. OBC-NCL candidates are similarly required to pay ₹850. If applications are submitted between December 3 and December 6, 2026, a late fee of ₹500 will be added to the standard fee. Candidates should be aware that the application fee is non-refundable once paid.
