NRI Candidates Can Use Passport for JEE Main Registration
Important Update for NRI Candidates
Good news has emerged for Indian citizens residing abroad who are interested in applying for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) but lack an Aadhaar card, PAN card, or driving license. These candidates can now utilize their passport to complete the application process.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) responded to an inquiry on X (formerly Twitter), confirming that NRI applicants without an Aadhaar card, PAN card, or driving license can use their passport as a valid form of identification. This clarification is crucial for those who faced challenges during the online application due to the absence of standard ID documents.
Steps for Candidates Lacking Standard ID
A user on X raised a question regarding how NRI candidates could register for JEE Main without an Aadhaar card, PAN card, or driving license, specifically asking if a passport could be used.
The NTA's response was clear: 'You can now use a passport to complete the application process.'
Thus, candidates can now proceed with their applications using their passports. The NTA also advised applicants to refer to the public notices released on October 28 and October 30 for further instructions.
Details from Recent Notices
On October 28, 2026, the NTA published guidelines for the JEE Main 2027 (Session 1) registration process. Additionally, a notice dated October 30, 2026, allows candidates who have already submitted an application and received an application number or paid the examination fee to submit a new application. Key points from this notice include:
- A fresh application can be submitted without a late fee until November 22, 2026.
- Applications can be submitted with a late fee from November 23 to November 26, 2026.
- A new application number will be assigned for the fresh application.
- Previously paid examination fees will not be refunded or adjusted against the new application.
If only specific details need correction, candidates can utilize the correction facility from November 27 to November 29, 2026.
