This year, an unprecedented 2,73,183 candidates have signed up for the NEET PG examination, reflecting a growth of over 12.5% compared to the previous year. The exam is scheduled for August 30 and will be conducted in a single shift.

Exam Details and Logistics

The NEET PG 2026 preparations are nearing completion, with the exam set to take place in a single shift on August 30 across around 340 cities and more than 1,300 centers nationwide. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has introduced significant changes aimed at enhancing the exam's security, transparency, and candidate-friendliness.

Single Shift Examination

In line with directives from the Supreme Court, this year's NEET PG exam will be held in a single shift to ensure consistent evaluation for all participants. The exam will be conducted via computer, and the number of centers has been expanded to accommodate as many candidates as possible in their respective cities.

Caution Against Misinformation

Union Health Minister JP Nadda convened a review meeting on August 1 to discuss the exam preparations. The meeting covered all aspects of the exam, including security, technical systems, and candidate convenience. The Minister urged candidates to disregard any rumors or false claims regarding paper leaks, emphasizing that the question paper is generated through a secure and encrypted process just before the exam. Candidates are encouraged to rely on official updates from the NBEMS and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and to report any suspicious activities.

New Features for Candidates

This year, several enhancements have been made to streamline the examination process. Candidates can choose three states for their exam center during the application phase. The exam city information will be disclosed on August 1, and admit cards will be available for download starting August 27. The question paper will include 180 questions, with a total duration of 210 minutes for completion. An Aadhaar-based verification system will be utilized for both the application and examination processes, with iris biometric verification available if necessary. Additional security measures such as multi-layer frisking, biometric checks, CCTV monitoring, real-time oversight, and technical audits will be enforced at the exam centers.
