Candidates can pursue a career as an officer through the NDA or opt for technical and non-technical roles under the 'Agniveer Vayu' scheme. Each pathway has distinct features and eligibility requirements. Here’s how you can join the Indian Air Force after Class 12.

NDA Entry: The Premier Route to Becoming an Officer

Upon successfully completing the Class 12 board exams (with mandatory subjects being Physics and Mathematics), candidates can directly join the Air Force as a Flying or Ground Duty Officer via the National Defence Academy (NDA) examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

Age Requirement: Candidates must be aged between 16.5 and 19.5 years for the UPSC NDA exam.

Selection Process: This includes a written test, followed by an SSB interview and a comprehensive medical examination.

Agniveer Vayu: A Chance to Serve Early

The 'Agniveer Vayu' initiative is gaining traction among Class 12 graduates. This program allows young individuals to serve in the Air Force as airmen for a duration of four years.

Eligibility: Students who have completed Class 12 in the Science stream (Mathematics, Physics, and English) or from other streams (Arts/Commerce) can apply.

Age Requirement: Candidates must be between 17.5 and 21 years old at the time of application.
Selection Process: The selection involves an online written exam, a Physical Fitness Test (PFT), and an adaptability assessment.

AFCAT: A Pathway After Graduation

This entry route is primarily for graduates. However, Class 12 students should note that after completing their college education, they can become Commissioned Officers in the Flying and Ground Duty (Technical/Non-Technical) branches through the AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test). Eligibility requires a minimum of 60% marks in graduation and at least 50% in Mathematics and Physics in Class 12.

Joining the Indian Air Force requires more than just academic qualifications; physical fitness, mental acuity, and a strong commitment to the nation are essential.
