CSIR Technician Selection Process & Exam Scheme
- Stage 1: Screening & Shortlisting: Applications will be reviewed by a Screening Committee to shortlist candidates.
- Stage 2: Trade Test (Qualifying Nature): Shortlisted candidates will undergo a Trade Test. Only those who pass will be eligible for the written exam.
- Stage 3: Competitive Written Examination (Total 150 Questions | 2 Hours 30 Minutes): Conducted as an OMR-Based or Computer-Based (CBT) multiple-choice test in Hindi & English (except for the English language section).• Paper-I (Time: 1 Hour): Mental Ability Test (General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, Problem Solving, Situational Judgment) — 50 Questions (100 Marks). NO NEGATIVE MARKS. Evaluated first; threshold marks required to unlock evaluation of Paper-II & Paper-III.
• Paper-II (Time: 30 Minutes): General Awareness (25 Qs | 75 Marks) & English Language (25 Qs | 75 Marks). Negative marking: -1 mark for each incorrect answer.
• Paper-III (Time: 1 Hour): Questions from the Concerned Trade/Subject Domain — 50 Questions (150 Marks). Negative marking: -1 mark for each incorrect answer.
- Final Merit List: The final list will be based solely on the cumulative scores from Paper-II and Paper-III.

How to Apply for CSIR Technician Online Application 2026
- Visit the official CSIR recruitment portal at recruitment.csir.res.in or csir.res.in.
- Click on the active registration link for “TECHNICIAN-2026” in the menu.
- Step 1 (Profile Registration): Register with your name, email ID, and mobile number to create a User ID and password. Log in and complete your profile. Once submitted, profile data cannot be edited.
- Step 2 (Data Entry & Document Upload): Fill in personal, educational (from Class 10th onwards), and experience details. Upload scanned copies of documents including a passport photo (JPG, <50 KB), signature (Black ink JPG, <50 KB), and essential certificates (PDF up to 1 MB per document).
- Step 3 (Live Photo Capture): Capture your live photo using your desktop webcam or by scanning the QR Code with your mobile. Ensure your face is within the green frame and blink naturally to trigger the capture. Unclear photos will be rejected.
- Step 4 (Online Fee Payment): Non-exempt candidates must click on the SBI Collect link, enter their credentials/Application number, pay Rs. 500/-, download the e-Receipt, and enter the transaction reference code in the portal to complete submission.
- Submit the online application by 17 September 2026 (05:00 PM) and print the final confirmation form for future reference.
