Central Sanskrit University Introduces BAMS Course for Class 10 Graduates
New Pathway to Ayurvedic Medicine
Central Sanskrit University (CSU) has unveiled an exciting opportunity for students aspiring to become Ayurvedic doctors after completing Class 10. Eligible candidates can enroll in a 7.5-year integrated Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) program by passing the NEET-PA entrance examination.
Details of the Pre-Ayurveda Entrance Exam
For those who have studied Sanskrit until Class 10, CSU is conducting the Pre-Ayurveda (NEET-PA) entrance exam for the academic year 2026-27. This exam serves as a gateway for students to embark on their journey towards becoming Ayurvedic practitioners.
BAMS Admission Process
The newly introduced integrated Pre-Ayurveda program is specifically designed for students proficient in Sanskrit. Admission to this course requires candidates to clear the NEET-PA exam, after which they will attend an Ayurveda Gurukul and ultimately earn their BAMS degree.
Course Duration and Structure
The comprehensive course lasts for 7.5 years, starting with two years at the Pre-Ayurveda Gurukul, followed by a 4.5-year BAMS curriculum. A one-year internship is mandatory upon completion of the course, allowing graduates to begin their careers as Ayurvedic doctors.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates who have completed Class 10 from a recognized board, including state Sanskrit boards, are eligible to apply for the entrance exam. General category applicants must achieve a minimum of 50% marks, while SC, ST, OBC, and differently-abled candidates need at least 40%.
Age Requirements
Applicants should be aged between 15 and 25 years as of December 31, 2026. The university has stated that there will be no age relaxation for any category of candidates.
Application Timeline
The online application process is set to commence in the third week of July 2026. The entrance exam will take place in the last week of August or the first week of September at various centers nationwide.
Exam Format
The NEET-PA exam will be conducted offline using OMR sheets, lasting for two and a half hours (150 minutes). It will feature 120 multiple-choice questions, awarding one mark for each correct answer without any negative marking. The exam will be available in Sanskrit, Hindi, and English.
Syllabus Overview
The university has published the syllabus for the exam, which encompasses topics such as Sanskrit literature, grammar, philosophy, Puranas, history, and the Indian Knowledge System (IKS). Questions will be derived from these subjects.
NCISM Approval
This entire program has received recognition from the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM). Earlier this year, CSU and NCISM initiated a special portal to integrate Ayurveda Gurukuls, and with the announcement of the entrance exam, this new system is being put into action.
