CBSE Syllabus Modifications for Class 9

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made significant revisions to the syllabus for students in Class 9 for the academic year 2026-27. A circular released on October 29 indicates that several topics, including 'Individuals in Society', 'Computational Thinking', and 'Artificial Intelligence' (AI), will no longer be part of the Class 9 curriculum.

Moreover, when these students progress to the 2027-28 academic year—the year they will take their board exams—they will not be required to study 'Environmental Education'. It is important to note that this change does not affect students currently in Class 10.

**Subjects Required for Class 10**

As per the new guidelines from CBSE, students in Class 10 during the 2027-28 session will need to take exams in five core subjects: Mathematics, Science, Social Science, First Language (L-1), and Second Language (L-2). Those currently in Class 9 will be evaluated in these subjects during their Class 10 board exams next year. Additionally, students will have the flexibility to choose an elective subject.

**Mandatory Skill Education**

The CBSE has also introduced a list of 'Skill Education' subjects. Students can select one subject from a pool of 22 options, which include Retail, Information Technology, Security, Automotive, Financial Markets, Introduction to Tourism, Beauty and Wellness, Agriculture, Food Production, Front Office Operations, Banking and Insurance, and Marketing and Sales.

**Advanced Mathematics and Science Options**

For those students who are particularly interested in Mathematics and Science, the CBSE has made provisions for selecting these subjects at an 'Advanced' level. Students can opt for one of these as an elective alongside their core subjects.
