CBSE Board Exam Requirements

CBSE Update: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that all Class 10 students are required to take the first board examination. The board emphasized that those who do not appear for at least three subjects in this initial exam will fall under the "compulsory repetition" category.

Introduction of Two Board Exams

Starting in 2026, CBSE will implement a two-exam system for Class 10. This announcement follows concerns raised by some students regarding their ability to attend the first exam. The board clarified that all students must participate in the first exam to ensure accurate eligibility and results for the subsequent exam.

Reason Behind the Decision

The board's decision was influenced by requests from students and parents who expressed that certain students might not be able to take the first board exam due to various reasons and sought permission to skip to the second exam.

Detailed Examination Rules

Mandatory First Exam: Every student is required to sit for the first board exam.

Improvement Opportunities: Students who pass the first exam can retake three core subjects (such as science, mathematics, social science, and languages) to enhance their scores.

Guidelines for Absent Students

Students who miss three or more subjects in the first exam will be barred from taking the second exam. They will be categorized under "compulsory revision" and will only be eligible for the main exam scheduled for February next year.

Compartment Students

Students who receive a compartment result in the first exam will have the opportunity to take the second exam within the same category.

Restrictions on Additional Subjects

Once students pass Class 10, they will not be permitted to take any additional subjects.

Official Statement from CBSE

CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj stated, "It is mandatory for all students to appear for the first board exam. Qualified students will have the chance to improve their performance in any three subjects from the core areas."

He added, "Students who do not appear for three or more subjects in the first exam will not be eligible for the second exam and will be placed in the 'compulsory revision' category, allowing them to participate only in the main exams next February."

Eligibility for the Second Examination

Improvement in Core Subjects: Students can retake up to three main subjects to improve their scores.

Compartment Examination: Students with compartment results can take the first or third compartment exam.

Compartment and Improvement: Students needing improvement in compartment subjects can appear for both categories.

Subject Change for Improvement: Students who have passed in one subject but wish to improve in another are allowed to switch subjects for improvement.
