Agnipath Scheme: Marriage Rule for Agniveers Explained
New Marriage Regulations for Agniveers
A crucial regulation has been introduced for individuals recruited under the Agnipath scheme, impacting their personal lives significantly. If an Agniveer marries during their four-year service period, they will be disqualified from the Army recruitment process and will not be eligible to become a permanent soldier. This stringent rule has been established by the Army, which has made it clear that Agniveers aspiring to transition to permanent roles must refrain from marrying for a specified duration.
As per the Army's updated guidelines, Agniveers are prohibited from marrying until they receive the final confirmation for permanent appointment. Any Agniveer who marries during this timeframe will be disqualified from the permanent soldier recruitment process, rendering them ineligible to apply or participate in any recruitment stages.
Clarification from the Army
Following the announcement of this rule, many Agniveers are curious about the duration they must wait before marrying. The Army has provided clarity on this matter as well. The permanent recruitment process commences after the completion of four years of service, typically taking an additional 4 to 6 months. Therefore, Agniveers should avoid marriage throughout this entire period.
The Agnipath scheme was initiated in 2022, and the service term for the first batch of recruits is nearing its conclusion. This initial group of Agniveers will complete their four-year service between June and July 2026, comprising around 20,000 individuals.
Marriage Permitted Post Permanent Appointment
Only about 25% of these Agniveers will have the chance to join the Indian Army as permanent soldiers. The selection will be based entirely on merit, considering various factors such as physical fitness, written exams, discipline, and performance during service. After their service period, Agniveers must apply separately for permanent recruitment, and the selection process will follow. The Army has explicitly stated that any Agniveer who marries before the final selection list is published will have their candidature automatically canceled.
However, those Agniveers who are successfully selected as permanent soldiers will be allowed to marry after their appointment. The restriction will be lifted once they are officially inducted into the Army, granting them the freedom to marry as they choose.
