NEET UG 2026: FMGE December 2025 Results Show High Failure Rate Among Foreign Graduates

The National Testing Agency has commenced the application process for NEET UG 2026, essential for medical admissions in India. Meanwhile, the FMGE December 2025 results indicate a troubling trend, with 76% of candidates failing the exam. This highlights the challenges faced by Indian students who pursue medical degrees abroad. The article delves into the reasons for the FMGE, the results, and a comparison with previous exams, shedding light on the ongoing issues in medical education recognition in India.

NEET UG 2026 Application Process Begins

NEET UG 2026: The National Testing Agency has initiated the application process for the National Entrance cum Eligibility Test (NEET) UG 2026. This exam is crucial for admission into undergraduate medical programs such as MBBS and BDS across various medical institutions in India. In a related development, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences has announced the results for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) held in December 2025. Analyzing the outcomes from the last two FMGE sessions indicates that many candidates who pursued their medical education abroad are struggling to qualify as doctors in India.

Understanding the FMGE

Let's delve into the reasons behind the FMGE and examine the results from December 2025.

Purpose of the FMGE:
NEET UG is conducted annually, yet many aspiring students fail to secure seats in MBBS programs. Consequently, numerous Indian students opt to study medicine in countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, Russia, and the USA. Upon their return to India, these graduates must pass the FMGE to be eligible to practice medicine. Only those who successfully clear the FMGE are recognized as doctors in India.

FMGE December 2025 Results

High Failure Rate:
The FMGE for December was administered on January 17, 2026, with results recently published. According to the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences, 43,933 candidates registered for the exam, out of which 42,872 appeared, while over 1,000 were absent. The results revealed that 32,604 candidates failed, resulting in a failure rate of 76%.

Comparison with Previous Results

Improvement Noted:
Despite the alarming failure rate of 76% in December 2025, this marks a slight improvement from the FMGE June 2025 results, where 82% of candidates who completed their MBBS abroad did not pass. Only 18% were successful in that session.
