Lucknow University has made significant strides in improving its PhD programs and faculty roles. The Executive Council has approved specific binding colors for dissertations, allowing easier identification. Additionally, teachers from government colleges can now supervise part-time PhD students, and a new procedure for converting regular PhDs to part-time has been established. The university also approved a five-percent reservation in PhD admissions for the children of teachers. Furthermore, the newly constructed sports complex will honor former Vice-Chancellor Prof. DP Singh. These changes aim to enhance the academic environment and support for researchers.

Lucknow University (LU) has introduced several important measures aimed at enhancing the experience for researchers and faculty members. The Executive Council has sanctioned specific binding colors for PhD dissertations, making it easier to identify them. Furthermore, educators from government and government-aided colleges are now allowed to supervise part-time PhD candidates. A new procedure has also been established for transitioning a regular PhD into a part-time format. The meeting also discussed proposals related to reservation in PhD admissions, the introduction of new teaching roles in the Faculty of Law, and the naming of the university's sports complex.


The Executive Council convened on Thursday at Lucknow University, under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jai Prakash Saini. The meeting, held in the 'Manthan Kaksh' (conference room) of the administrative building, established three distinct binding colors for different faculties to streamline research documentation.

  • Blue: For faculties of Management, Commerce, Education, Science, and Engineering.

  • Maroon: For faculties of Arts, Fine Arts, Law, and the Abhinavgupt Institute.

  • Forest Green: For faculties of Agriculture, Yoga & Alternative Medicine, Ayurveda, and Unani.


This initiative aims to simplify the identification of dissertations and the verification of associated documents.

**Standard Operating Procedure for PhD Transition**


A five-step Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been approved for converting a regular PhD into a part-time PhD. The process includes submitting an application to the Head of Department, obtaining recommendations from the departmental research committee, securing approval from the Vice-Chancellor, receiving a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Registrar, and paying the required fees.


Reservation in PhD Admissions

**Five Percent Reservation for Teacher's Wards**


In response to requests from the College Teachers' Association, a proposal for a five-percent reservation in PhD admissions for the children of teachers from affiliated colleges has been approved. This will align with the existing reservation system for undergraduate and postgraduate admissions. Additionally, information regarding the formal approval from the Raj Bhavan for the Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Program (AEDP) ordinance was shared.

**Naming of Sports Complex and New Teaching Positions**


As per university spokesperson Mukul Srivastava, the newly built sports complex will be named 'Prof. DP Singh Krida Bhavan' in honor of former Vice-Chancellor Prof. DP Singh. Moreover, approval has been granted for 17 new self-financed teaching positions for the five-year LLB program, which will aid in the effective conduct of academic activities within the Law Faculty.
