Southern Railway Apprentice 2026: The Southern Railway has initiated a recruitment drive for apprentices, providing an opportunity for candidates eager to gain hands-on experience in the railway sector. The official announcement regarding this recruitment has been made, and it is important to note that there will be no written test for candidate selection. Instead, candidates will be chosen based on their qualifications and relevant experience in the respective trades.


A total of 4,471 apprentice positions are available through this recruitment initiative. Out of these, 163 positions are reserved for 'Fresher' candidates, while 4,308 positions are allocated for 'Ex-ITI' candidates. Eligible candidates can submit their applications online from August 28, 2026, to September 27, 2026, until 5:00 PM. The apprenticeship will cover various trades, including Fitter, Electrician, Welder, COPA, Painter, and others.


Selected apprentices will receive a monthly stipend ranging from ₹8,200 to ₹9,600 during their training period, making this an excellent opportunity for young individuals to gain practical experience at different Southern Railway workshops.


Eligibility Criteria for Southern Railway Apprentice Recruitment 2026


Educational Qualification: For the 'Fresher' category (Fitter, Painter, and Welder trades), candidates must have achieved a minimum of 50% marks in Class 10. For the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) position, candidates need at least 50% marks in Class 12 with subjects including Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.


Candidates applying under the 'Ex-ITI' category must hold an ITI certificate from an NCVT/SCVT-recognized institution in the relevant trade, along with a minimum of 50% marks in Class 10. Engineering graduates and diploma holders are not eligible for this recruitment.


Age Limit: The minimum age for applicants is 15 years, while the maximum age is 22 years for the 'Fresher' category. For 'Ex-ITI' and 'MLT' categories, the upper age limit is 24 years. Age will be calculated as of September 27, 2026. Age relaxation will be provided to candidates belonging to SC/ST, OBC, PwD, and Ex-serviceman categories as per government norms.

Candidates can apply online by visiting the official Southern Railway website. During the application process, they must fill in personal, educational, and trade-related information, and upload photographs, signatures, and required certificates. The application fee is ₹100 for General/UR candidates, while SC/ST/PwD candidates are exempt from this fee.


Selection Process for Southern Railway Apprentice Recruitment 2026


There will be no written examination for this recruitment. Candidates will be selected based on a merit list created from the marks obtained in their 10th, 12th, and ITI examinations. This will be followed by document verification, and final selection will depend on medical fitness.
