IITs Take Firm Stand Against Companies Revoking Job Offers

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have issued a stern warning to companies that have revoked job offers during campus placements. The All IITs Placement Committee (AIPC) is demanding that these firms either honor their commitments or provide compensation to affected students. With around 100 students impacted, the AIPC has set a deadline for companies to clarify their positions. This move comes in response to a growing trend of job offer cancellations, particularly highlighted by recent incidents involving major firms like Oracle. The implications for students are significant, as many cease their job search upon securing an offer, leaving them vulnerable if offers are withdrawn.
 

IITs Address Job Offer Revocations



The prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have adopted a stringent approach towards firms that have rescinded job offers made during campus recruitment. The All IITs Placement Committee (AIPC) has issued warnings to over ten companies, demanding that they either uphold the job offers extended to students or compensate them with an amount equivalent to three months' salary.


**Accusations Against Companies**


Reports indicate that several firms, including Oracle, Interview Kickstart, and SuperAGI, are under scrutiny for retracting or failing to honor job offers to students from the 2026 graduating class. Approximately 100 students have been impacted by these actions. The AIPC has requested these companies to provide clarification by August 15 and has allowed them time to resolve the matter.


**Consequences for Students**


Once students secure employment through campus placements, they typically cease applying to other positions. Many institutions enforce policies that prevent students from attending additional interviews after accepting an offer. Therefore, if a company withdraws its offer at the last moment, the student is often left with limited job prospects.


**Regulations for Companies**


According to AIPC regulations, if a company cancels a job offer without a legitimate reason, it may be obligated to pay compensation equivalent to three months' salary to the affected students. Additionally, such companies could face restrictions on their participation in future IIT campus placements.


This action is deemed crucial as the frequency of companies retracting offers has escalated in recent years. In 2025, over twenty companies were prohibited from participating in IIT placement drives due to similar issues.


**Tightened Measures Following Oracle Incident**


This year, reports surfaced that Oracle had rescinded both full-time and internship offers to students from various IITs and NITs. This decision was reportedly made in light of global layoffs within the company, impacting numerous students.
