This initiative will allow Indian students to engage in research at prestigious Canadian universities over a span of three years, starting in 2027. The internships are scheduled to occur between May and October.

Eligibility Criteria for GRI

The application window for the 2027 program is now open, with submissions due by September 16. According to AICTE Chairman Professor Yogesh Singh, applicants must be at least 18 years old and currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited institution. Furthermore, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in either English or French.

Bilateral Agreement and Future Prospects

In March, a bilateral agreement was established during the Canadian Prime Minister's visit to India, focusing on educational collaboration, research partnerships, and talent mobility. This agreement led to the expansion of the GRI program. Reports indicate that Canada continues to be a favored destination for Indian students seeking higher education, with 427,000 Indian students traveling there in 2024.
