PhD Admissions Now Open at Allahabad University
The application process for PhD programs at Allahabad University has officially started. A total of 959 PhD positions are available across the university and its affiliated colleges.
The online application window opened on September 2, 2026, and candidates must submit their applications by September 25, 2026. It is important to note that admissions are available in 49 subjects, although four subjects do not have any available seats.

Breakdown of Available PhD Seats
A total of 959 PhD seats are distributed between Allahabad University and its constituent colleges. Out of these, 470 seats are on the university campus, while 489 are allocated to affiliated colleges. The distribution of seats varies significantly by subject. Chemistry leads with 84 seats, followed by Commerce and Business Administration with 75, Physics with 74, and Law with 56. Other subjects include Hindi (50 seats), English and Philosophy (45 each), Ancient History, Culture, and Archaeology (43), Mathematics (34), Computer Science (28), Economics (27), and Electronics and Communication (23). Additionally, Journalism and Mass Communication has four seats available.
Constituent Colleges Seat Allocation
The remaining 489 PhD seats are distributed among the university's constituent colleges. Allahabad Degree College has the highest allocation with 203 seats, followed by CMP with 89, SS Khanna with 46, and Jagat Taran with 36. Notably, Allahabad Degree College offers 38 seats specifically for Law.
Exemptions from Qualifying Exams
Certain candidates are exempt from the qualifying examination requirement. This includes regular and permanent faculty members of Allahabad University and its affiliated colleges, as well as armed forces officers of Colonel rank with a minimum of 10 years of service. International applicants and designated part-time candidates with at least 10 years of regular service are also exempt.
PhD Admission Application Fees
The application fees for PhD admission vary based on the candidate's category. General, OBC, and EWS candidates are required to pay ₹600, while SC, ST, and PH candidates must pay ₹300.
